Mid-19th-century Austrian portico mantel clock, the black-painted wood case with arched pediment surmounted by a finely cast gilt-bronze eagle finial above scrolling foliate mounts and mask ornament, flanked by roundels. The circular enamel dial with Arabic numerals and gilt bezel is supported on four tapering alabaster columns with gilt-bronze Corinthian capitals and bases, framing an architectural plinth and a gilt-bronze sunburst pendulum with classical mask. All raised on a shaped black-painted base with stepped molding and block feet, accented with further gilt-bronze mounts. Original mid-19th-century mechanical movement (not examined in detail) now not working and in need of full servicing or repair. A handsome example of Austrian Biedermeier / Empire Revival clockmaking.
