A vintage Canadian sterling silver short candlestick by Henry Birks & Sons, Montreal, mid-20th century, of plain baluster form with circular spreading foot and shallow circular nozzle, weighted base. Stamped to the side of the foot Birks Sterling and underside with pattern number 76/26. Typical low console candlestick suited for table or mantle use. Condition: Moderate, even tarnish and surface oxidation overall. Light surface scratches and minor shallow dings from use and polishing; plating not applicable as this is sterling shell over a weighted core. Weighted base stable with no evident separation; presents well and would respond favourably to a professional polish. (Approx. height 7–7.5 cm; base diameter 8.5–9 cm; total gross weight 265.56 g, of which the sterling silver content is estimated at c.29 g.)
