Assembled pair comprising a Victorian japanned work / occasional table and matching side chair, each in black lacquer with gilt and mother-of-pearl decoration. The serpentine rectangular work table with hinged lid and interior compartment (not shown), the exterior decorated with scrolling gilt foliate borders and scattered floral sprays, raised on a turned and faceted baluster standard with lobed, panelled base, each panel richly inlaid with abalone and nacre blossoms, on three exaggerated cabriole legs with further gilt and mother-of-pearl ornament. Together with a balloon-back side chair, the shaped splat painted with a still life of fruit heightened with mother-of-pearl, over a caned seat and ring-turned front legs united by stretchers. British, mid-19th century, in the Regency Revival / Victorian japanned taste. Sold together as one lot. Table 16x13x29H, Chair 32H
