Rectangular giltwood vitrine table with hinged glass-top display compartment, the upper edge framed by continuous beaded and guilloche moldings above a pierced foliate and scroll-carved frieze backed with red fabric and enclosing a velvet-lined interior. Each corner with boldly modeled clustered leaf embellishments over turned and stop-fluted tapering legs carved with acanthus and berry motifs, joined by a shaped X-form stretcher with central roundel and beaded molding, terminating in small toupie feet. Retains an attractive, warm, time-softened gilded surface and red interior, designed for the presentation of jewelry or small objets d’art. Continental, in the Louis XVI Revival taste, late 19th century. 36x21x30H
