After Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471–1528), Melencolia I, 20th-century facsimile reproduction by Bundesdruckerei, Berlin. Black-and-white printed facsimile of Dürer’s celebrated 1514 engraving, depicting the seated winged figure surrounded by geometric solids, tools, magic square and distant seascape. The sheet bears on the reverse a round stamp reading “Faksimile Reproduktion Bundesdruckerei Berlin,” indicating issue by the German state printing office. Presented in a simple gilt-wood frame with beaded inner edge and cream mount, glazed and ready to hang.
