Graham Clarke (British, b. 1941), Great Shakes, large hand-coloured etching with aquatint on wove paper, c. 1970s–80s. Characteristic bustling harbour-and-town scene with boats in the foreground and a medieval-style town under reconstruction behind, the composition contained within an architectural arch and watched over by a smiling sun. Richly printed and delicately hand-coloured in pastel tones with Clarke’s typical humorous detail and crowded narrative vignettes. The work bears the artist’s small red monogram chop to the lower image, with the title and edition number inscribed in pencil in the lower margin and signed at lower right “Graham Clarke.” Unframed.
