Small sculptural art pottery vase, likely mid-20th century, of compressed ovoid form with short neck and stylised bird/owl handles. The body is heavily textured overall with closely packed circular impressions, creating a pebble-like surface, and decorated in a matte black glaze with applied ochre-yellow roundels and scalloped collar suggesting an abstract owl face and breast. Two wing-like side projections rise from the shoulders, reinforcing the bird motif. The underside is fully glazed and hand-inscribed in yellow “50E/61” (shape or decoration number), but otherwise unsigned. An engaging, tactile studio piece, displaying strong mid-century modernist design. Condition: overall good vintage condition with expected wear; surface shows scattered small rubs and minor glaze losses on the high points and base edge, particularly to some of the yellow roundels; no visible chips, cracks, or repairs; base ring with light abrasion from shelf contact. Height approx. 4 3/4 in.; width across “wings” approx. 4 1/2 in.
