Portrait miniature of an elegant lady in late 18th-century court dress, her powdered hair dressed with pearls and wearing a blue gown, lace fichu and bow at the décolletage. Finely painted in watercolour on a circular ivory wafer, mounted behind glass in an ebonised wood block frame with gilt slip. Continental, probably French, mid to late 19th century, after 18th-century prototypes in the manner of Vigée Le Brun. Minor specks and light rubbing to background; frame with wear and losses to backing paper, all consistent with age.
