Oval portrait miniature of a young lady in Rococo dress, seated in a landscape and weaving a garland of roses, more blooms gathered in her lap. Watercolour on thin ivory wafer, the reverse with characteristic wavy growth striations. Set behind convex glass in an oval brass bezel within a rectangular frame veneered with small ivory tiles and decorated with ink-drawn foliate scrolls. The card backing is made from a French printed text and bears an old collector’s label inscribed “Mme de Pompadour?”. French school, mid to late 19th century, after 18th-century prototypes in the manner of Boucher and his circle. Cracks and age-shrinkage to the ivory veneer, light rubbing and surface wear to the miniature and frame, consistent with age.
